Looz solution is a man-made sugar solution used to treat constipation. It makes the stool soft and regulates bowel movement. It is also prescribed in case of hepatic coma.
Looz solution contains Lactulose which is a laxative and ammonia de-toxicant. It is an intestinal acidifier and acts by drawing water and increasing the bulk of the stool. By absorbing more water, the stool softens and the defecation becomes easier.
Take Looz solution orally once every day as directed by your doctor. The initial recommended dose is 15 ml once in a day. Kindly consult your doctor for your correct dose. If it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose or else take it as soon as you remember. Do not double dose.
Looz solution is not recommended for diabetics and those on low galactose diet. Use with caution in elderly as it accumulates gas in the intestines.
Possible side effects are: diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain.
Looz solution should only be given to infants and smaller children if indicated as it can influence the normal reflexes for passing stools. Looz solution can be mixed with fruit juice, water, milk and a soft dessert to improve the taste.
