Alphagan P

Alphagan P belongs to the class of drugs known as alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists. Alphagan P is used to treat the symptoms of intraocular hypertension. As fluid enters the eye, intraocular pressure builds up. Alphagan P help to reduce eye pressure by reducing the amount of fluid made in the eye. Additionally, Alphagan P also increase the flow of fluid out of the eye. Patients should notice the effect of Alphagan P within 2 hours.

Alphagan P, which contains Brimonidine, is thus used to reduce the quantity of fluid present in the eye and thereby decrease the pressure that exists within the eye.

There may be side effects from taking Alphagan P including mild eye discomfort, stinging or burning in the eyes after using Alphagan P, dizziness, feeling like there is something stuck in the eye and dry or watery eyes. More serious side effects may include redness or swelling of the eye, itching or pain in or around the eye, oozing or discharge from the eye, changes in vision and sensitivity to light.
